Selection and review of video about cold fusion energy
The Saint is a well known film starring Val Kilmer and Elisabeth Shue. Despite lukewarm critical reviews, and cooled off interest since its release date in the late 90’s, ever since the experiments of Francesco Piantelli, and since Andrea Rossi and Sergio Focardi introduced their E-Cat into the world, the video may be worth a bit more speculation. Originally, critics panned the film for being overproduced, for being too generic, or for simply trying too hard to appeal to a mass market. Without added DVD and video sales later, the movie was a
financial disappointment as well, not drawing in nearly the amount of desired profit for the amount of special effects and energy that was put into the film.
However, with Rossi and his colleagues delving into the LENR field, a science that is closely related to cold fusion, it would not be surprising if this movie were to be revisited for coming out not too soon before the apparent discovery of a new science. This is because the film features the science of cold fusion as a very important plot point. When cold fusion was originally discovered, it was briefly hailed as the discovery of a new and unprecedented source of energy that could be harnessed easily. However, after further research it was discovered that this was not to be the case. Going into the research method of the discovering scientists a bit more, it was discovered that their methods were entirely inadequate.
The energy levels that were created from cold fusion were high originally, but it was found that the scientists had no idea how to really maximize output. Performing their experiment in succession, it was found that the energy could either be at a very low level, or at very high levels. It seemed to be a random amount of energy that they had no way of predicting despite performing the experiment in the exact same way each time. In addition to that, the experiments could sometimes have energy ready in a matter of minutes, or it could take days or even weeks to generate the amount of energy that scientists were expecting. Because of this, their discovery was merely a blip on radar. The creation of energy was interesting, but did not prove enough to warrant further research. These scientists continued to research cold fusion even after they were driven underground, but after years and years of no results, they shut down their operation and have not been heard of since.
Despite the lack of any credible research in the field, many scientists wanting to be the
first to harness the newly discovered power of cold fusion continued to research but no results were ever reached. This is until the E-cat was designed and this has thrown the illegitimacy of cold fusion into much doubt. Though it cannot be proven as of yet that the nickel
hydrogen fusion taking place in the E-cat is actually an example of cold fusion, Rossi plans to market it anyway. He has already had extensive discussions with Ampenergo and Defkalion green technologies, two companies dedicated to producing and then marketing the E-cat.
The Saint straddles the line between the cold fusion discoveries of today, and the uncertainty of them in the past. Coming out shortly after the U.S. study on cold fusion was shut down, disregarding acting, special effects, or plot issues, the movie does present
an interesting historical perspective on cold fusion as a science, and as a possibility. The plot involves Val Kilmer’s character, Simon Templar, being contracted by a Russian political figure to steal a cold fusion formula from an American scientist. With the formula in hand, he will then produce it, and use his production of it as a political platform, thereby taking advantage of the energy crisis in Russia. There is a romantic relationship between Kilmer and the scientist in the movie, but disregarding all of the Hollywood fluff, the movie is an interesting depiction of how the discovery of a valid new alternative energy source really could affect the world. Even if cold fusion was seen as a theoretical impossibility at the time that the movie was released, if Rossi’s E-cat is proven to be a real new source of alternative energy, the events like what would
have unfolded if the Russian dictator got his hands on the formula could be seen happening all over the world.
